First Year Performance Workshop brings the class of 2024 together for the opportunity to dance, collaborate, think, and be, for this specific moment in their college career. At its heart, First-Year Performance Workshop, a capstone experience for all first year students, is about building and fostering community. Through this process they have made visible the possibility of being seen as individuals and work as an ensemble. Students developed solos and re-imagined phrase work in collaboration with one another. With the support of faculty and student mentors and through peer reflection, students were guided toward ways of thinking differently and expansively about movement material and collaborative process. Their solo and group materials took many forms; these dances became texts, illustrations, photographs, playlists, paintings, and videos. The work is a weaving and celebration of these materials, of this process.
